Eindhoven Liberation

silliephillie:

During Operation Market Garden, the citizens of Eindhoven flooded the town in celebration as US and British soldiers marched through. They flew flags, kissed soldiers, and danced in the streets. When the Allies were forced to retreat, the Germans retaliated by heavily bombing the town. It is difficult to see these scenes knowing what was about to happen to these people.
